“Waiting for your dog to limp before booking a physio appointment is like waiting for a tooth to ache before brushing your teeth.”

The body map

Every session starts with the whole animal.

I look at how your horse, dog or cat stands, moves and holds tension, then work on the areas that need it. Pick an area to see what that involves.

A sweep of light runs nose to tail, just as my hands do at the start of every assessment. Tap an area to focus on it.

I assess and treat; your vet diagnoses. Remedial treatment always follows your vet's consent.

Prehab & rehab

Rehab repairs injuries.
Prehab helps prevent them.

Most of my clients first call after something has gone wrong. The ones who stay comfortable longest are the ones I see before it does.

Prehab

Keep them moving at their best

  • Regular maintenance sessions, from youngsters to veterans
  • Pre-season and pre-competition checks
  • Working dogs checked over after the shooting season
  • Strength and conditioning plans you can follow at home

Rehab

Get back to full strength, step by step

  • Recovery after surgery or injury, following your vet's diagnosis
  • Tailored programmes that progress as they do
  • Class 4 laser as part of the plan where appropriate
  • Regular updates to your vet and care team

What a session includes

The 60 minutes on the mat or in the stable is just the tip of the iceberg.

  1. 1

    Vet consent & history

I review your vet's notes and your animal's history before we meet, so the session starts in the right place.

  2. 2

    Assessment

Posture, movement and gait, muscle tone and joint range of motion, looked at as a whole.

  3. 3

    Treatment

Hands-on massage and myofascial work, acupressure, joint mobilisations and Class 4 laser where it fits.

  4. 4

    Your home plan

Simple exercises and stretches to keep progress going between visits. I'll show you each one.

  5. 5

Your care team, kept in the loop

Notes back to your vet, and a word with your farrier, saddle fitter or hydrotherapist when it helps.

Class 4 laser therapy

Not all lasers are built the same.

A Class 4 therapy laser delivers far more light energy than the low-level units you may have seen. It's non-invasive, quiet and most animals find it relaxing; plenty doze off. I use it as part of a treatment plan to support comfort and tissue recovery.

    From the racing yard

“This is how you want a post-race back to look.”

Colin, a racehorse at Knowle Racing, before and after a session following his run. A few minutes of compression and trigger point release made him more comfortable through his back.

Every animal is different, and results depend on the individual and their plan.

The same racehorse's back after treatment, softer and more even

She's been working with my dog Freddie for five weeks now and the progress he has made is phenomenal. The surgeon, who reviewed him five weeks post surgery, was amazed and impressed with his progress. She confirmed that the physio played an integral part in his recovery.

Over the past year, she has treated my mare, Lily, who was noticeably weaker on her right side. Thanks to her regular treatments, Lily has come on so much. She is stronger, moving more evenly, and looks so much more comfortable and confident.
    Kirsty, Lily the mare
Due to her fear of humans, finding someone who could earn her trust enough to work on her sore areas was what we thought an impossible task. She's markedly happier, naughtier, more playful and loose after Kate's sessions and actually gets giddy when Kate arrives.
    Grace, Bonnie, a rescued Staffy
Wow wow wow, I cannot thank Kate enough. After just one session it's like we have a new horse! She's relaxed, even looks happier, she's less tense in her neck and able to travel through her back.
    Carla, her mare
Kate is very professional and quiet with the horses. They all respond really well to her and the treatments have had profound effect on them. Kate has made a huge difference to their wellbeing and Knowle Racing highly recommends her.

Kate has helped our dog with a back issue and a hip issue, both with laser treatment and physio. He finds the treatment so relaxing at times he falls asleep! Kate has been professional, flexible and worked in conjunction with our vet.

    Meet Kate

It started with a paralysed dachshund.

My first spark of interest came from watching my auntie, an animal physio, rehab a little dachshund paralysed by a spinal disc problem. I went on to spend years at an equine swimming centre while I studied, helping horses through rehab and conditioning, before qualifying with a BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Physiotherapy.

Today I treat racehorses, eventers, working gundogs, family pets and the odd donkey, and I still think keeping animals comfortable is the absolute best job in the world.
